Detailed Group-Type Characterization of Plastic-Waste Pyrolysis Oils: By Comprehensive Two-Dimensional Gas Chromatography Including Linear, Branched, and Di-Olefins

Plastic-waste pyrolysis oils contain large amounts of linear, branched, and di-olefinic compounds. This makes it not obvious to determine the detailed group-type composition in particular presence substantial N-, S-, O-containing heteroatomic The thorough evaluation different column combinations for two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC × GC), i.e., non-polar polar non-polar, revealed that second combination had best performance, as indicated by bi-dimensional resolution selected key By coupling GC multiple detectors, such flame ionization detector (FID), a sulfur chemiluminescence (SCD), nitrogen (NCD), mass spectrometer (MS), identification quantification were possible hydrocarbon, oxygen-, sulfur-, nitrogen-containing compounds both naphtha (C5–C11) diesel fractions (C7–C23) originating from plastic-waste oils. Group-type showed α-olefins (36.39 wt%, 35.08 wt%), iso-olefins (8.77 9.06 diolefins (4.21 4.20 wt%) present. Furthermore, oxygen-containing (alcohols, ketones, ethers) could be distinguished abundant hydrocarbon matrix, employing Stabilwax first Rxi-5ms column. Ppm levels sulfides, thiophenes, pyridines also quantified use selective SCD NCD detectors.
